HANOVER, N.H.—Top executives from Disney/ABC Television, Time Warner Cable, Microsoft, Google, Cisco Systems, and IBM will converge at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth for Tech@Tuck on January 14. Tech@Tuck is the Center for Digital Strategies’ dynamic, day-long exploration into all aspects of video production, content aggregation, monetization, and distribution.
This year's theme is "VIDEO: Winning the Battle for People, Platforms, and Profits."
Industry leaders in the global entertainment, broadcast, cable, and online video arenas are scheduled to share high-level information and insights with students, faculty, and the public over the course of the day. The growing popularity of YouTube videos, video on demand, and the transition from analog to digital cable in February, 2009, makes this theme especially relevant. With video equipment costs plummeting, just about anyone with something to say or share can create their own streaming video site.
"Our annual Tech@Tuck event is one of the center’s most exciting programs because the most respected executives in the country spend the day sharing their expertise with the Tuck community," says Hans Brechbühl, the center's executive director.
Now in its eighth year, Tech@Tuck kicks off with a vendor fair. Companies offering a wide range of video-related products and services are due to display their newest products and services. Keval Desai, Google TV ads product management director, will also present an update on online TV advertising trends. And Steven Abraham, Global Leader of Media and Entertainment Services, IBM Global Services, will moderate a panel discussion with a range of experts, including:
- Rich Ross, President, Disney Channel Worldwide
- Glenn A. Britt, D’71, T’72, president and CEO, Time Warner Cable
- Blair Westlake, corporate vice president of the Media & Entertainment Group, Microsoft Corporation
- Tony Bates, senior vice president/general manager of Service Provider Group, Cisco Systems
Tech@Tuck is underwritten by Britt, a Dartmouth and Tuck alum, as part of the Britt Technology Impact Series, which seeks to examine the growing impact of technology on corporations and individuals.
The Center for Digital Strategies focuses on the role of information technology in enabling business strategy. Through its programs and research, the center examines the impact of technology on all aspects of management and addresses issues throughout the extended enterprise, including globalization, organizational change, and information security.
